DescriptionThis is the true story of Heni - the young Ngaiterangi woman who, along with the rest of her tribe, showed mercy to wounded British soldiers after the Battle of Gate Pa. The tribe became renowned throughout the British Commonwealth because of their deeds. At Lichfield Cathedral in England, a stained glass window commemorates Heni, the young woman who gave water to a dying officer. In Tauranga, St George's Church is built on the site of the battle. There you will find a memorial stone and the spring from where Heni collected the water for the soldiers she helped. |
